Key West in an island city located within the Straits of Florida that is at the southern end of U.S. Route 1.

What Are Some Things To Do In Key West?

Sunrises and sunsets are both amazing on this little island. There are also more unique bars here with their own history than just about anywhere else in the country, from Captain Tony’s (immortalized by Jimmy Buffett in “Last Mango in Paris”) to Sloppy Joe’s to Margaritaville. Key West is definitely a party town, and the partying starts on their main drag, Duval Street, which is dotted with quaint shops and island-inspired B & Bs. Of course, there are also jet ski outings, parasailing, kayaking and all that fun outdoor stuff, but there’s so much more on Key West. Visitors can’t get enough of Ernest Hemingway’s house (home of the five-toed cats), Dry Tortugas National Park (probably the prettiest water in all of the United States), and Mel Fisher’s Treasure Museum (a golden experience). Seriously, Key West is not a day trip…but what a day trip! We fly many charters there just for the day. What a great way to celebrate a special occasion such as an anniversary, birthday, or any old Tuesday!

Where Should I Stay In Key West?

Key West has some great bed and breakfasts right on Duval. It’ll be noisy, but it will be memorable. They also have plenty of the big chain hotels if that’s more you speed. Key West is a great walking town, so wherever you end up, just make sure it’s close to Duval. This is where the action happens! Don’t miss the Sunset Party on Mallory Square – held 365 days a year! See you at sunset!

Fun Fact:

In the year 1815, a Spanish governor of Cuba gave the island of Key West to an officer of the Royal Spanish Navy Artillery by the name of Juan Pablo Salas. After Florida was transferred to the United States in 1821, Salas sold the islands – TWICE – first for $575 to a former governor of South Carolina, John Geddes, and then again to a businessman, John Simonton, during a meeting for $2,000 pesos. Geddes tried in vain, but Simonton, who with the help of his influential friends in DC, was able to gain full possession of the island.
